Our EcoCommittee has been very busy, thinking up ideas to involve everyone in making our school and world a little greener.

We registered with the EcoSchools programme in September 2004.

Here are good links for EcoSchools:

Our EcoCommittee has been elected and we are working on our environmental audit.

We are working together to improve the environment, encourage citizenship, promote healthy lifestyles and much more besides......

Everyone in school has a part to play and we are realising that a little effort makes a big difference.

We harvested the cabbage from the school garden.

  1. Environmental Review We discussed general points.

General points

    Comment and action points
Are corridors used for special design projects such as murals? YES Interesting and colourful pictures brighten the corridors. We like the TechFest display outside P3, the big mural outside P2, the tapestry from last year’s P5 in the annexe and the responsible citizen. We should write ‘thank you’ letters to the chaplaincy, Miss Simpson and Mrs Wischik. The cloakroom and long walls in the annexe have a lot of space for a special project.
Are there comfortable places to sit in corridors and common spaces? YES There are benches in the cloakroom areas and comfortable chairs in the library.
Do rooms have features or decorations designed and made by the class or tutor group? YES All the classrooms have lots of work made by the class.
Does the main entrance hall have a welcoming feel? YES We like the big tapestry showing what happens in St Peter’s.
Is there an Eco Schools noticeboard in a prominent position? YES There are two noticeboards. We need to keep the information up to date.
  1. The Secret Garden
  • There are still a lot of flowers and it looks bright but it needs tidying. There is a lot of weeding to do.
  • The picnic tables need painting to stop the wood going bad. It would be best to ask adults to use the special varnish but, if we have a work party, children could garden at the same time.
  • Mr Kennedy suggested that we should get some covers for the garden furniture to protect it during the winter. That would be a good idea.
  • The benches are a bit cold and dirty. We talked about buying some cushions. We could store them in the shed.
  • We looked at the new birdbath which we will put in the garden in memory of Jaime’s granddad, Carlo Robb, who helped us to start the garden. It will go beside the bird table and we need to put a plaque on it.
